West Midlands Metro Shutdown Causes Disruptions for West Brom Fans

West Bromwich Albion supporters express their displeasure after it was announced that the West Midlands Metro will suspend all twenty-one of its trams from the 13th November until further notice.

According to West Midlands Metro, the reason for the shutdown is so that additional repairs to the tracks can be carried out.

A West Midlands Metro spokesperson said: “Earlier this year a repair programme was implemented to address cracks identified on several of our trams.

“As part of this work, it has become necessary for additional repairs to be carried out.

“To ensure that we can continue to run a safe and reliable service, a decision has been made to remove all twenty-one trams from service until further notice.”

The Metro’s decision has left many West Bromwich Albion fans annoyed, as many supporters use the trams and the trains to travel to and from the Hawthorns on match days, and these disruptions have angered many of the clubs fans.

A West Brom supporter who asked to remain anonymous, said: “This is going to cause even more carnage on the pre and post-match train service to and from The Hawthorns.

“Every week trains are cancelled, and then the next available one has three carriages.” Many Albion supporters arrive and leave the stadium by getting on and off at The Hawthorns station nearby the stadium.

West Midlands Metro has decided to compensate customers by allowing all Metro tickets and passes to be used on all train services between Wolverhampton/Hawthorns and Birmingham.

The Metro disruptions come at the busiest time of the year where many Christmas shoppers are expected to be travelling in and out of Birmingham, and the football season well under way.
