Aston Villa had the most fan arrests in the West Midlands last season

Aston Villa football club had the most fan arrests on matchdays out of West Midlands based club’s last season.

The Premier League side had 24 supporters arrested between 13th August 2021 and 22nd May 2022, according to data provided by West Midlands Police.

Villa had almost double the number of supporters arrested than their local rivals Birmingham City, who sit second in the number of matchday arrests last season with 13 on the record.

The Villans numbers of arrests last season made up 42% of all football related arrests in the West Midlands.

Premier league side, Wolverhampton Wanderers, were third in the number of arrests by West Midlands Police. They had 12 supporters arrested last season, half the total of Villa’s.

West Bromwich Albion were fourth in arrests recorded last season. The baggies had seven supporters arrested, which is almost half of their fellow English Football League (EFL) Championship rivals, Birmingham City.

Bottom of the rankings with just one arrest listed last season was Walsall. The Saddlers being bottom of the list was expected due to the club having a smaller fanbase compared to the likes of Villa and Blues.

Last season, in total, there was 57 football related arrests on matchdays amongst the West Midlands clubs, this comes at a time where the number of football related arrests up and down the country is increasing.
