Political effects that COVID 19 has had on UK's grassroots football

Grassroots football clubs teach the important morals of football to young children. Teamwork, discipline and perseverance are skills you need for life.

There are more than 40,000 grassroots football clubs in the UK and the COVID crisis has been tough on these clubs financially. In fact, 63% of parents were approached by their local grassroots club in need of financial support. Also, 24% of parents said that their local communities would really struggle without their local grassroots club.

What is the government doing to help with the situation? With grassroots football being given the go ahead to return on the 29th March, the UK government, the FA and the Premier League introduced the 'Game on' scheme consisting of £16 million worth of funding to grassroots football.

The government can be challenged politically via movements and protests. The Media has so much power to voice its opinion and others as we have seen the past 2 years. When Media companies and organisations collaborate they can, demand a policy change, demand transparency and accountability and they can also hold politicians to account.

The media have the power to challenge those in power as we seen with the super league proposal which was shut down within 48 hours of its announcement due to the backlash expressed through the UK media companies.
